This may seem like a new ingredient as it is not commonly seen in products, however this oil has been used for different medicinal purposes for centuries.  The more we research this oil, the more we fall in love.  Tamanu oil is one of the highlight ingredients in our brand new ROSE + FRANK line.  Specifically in our glow facial oil.

Tamanu oil has a nutty, earthy smell and comes from the seed of the tamanu nut tree.  It is considered a tree nut, so if you have allergies you should test on a small patch of skin first.  Tamanu is high in fatty acids, several of these fatty acids are found in your body naturally and are used to keep skin healthy.  The fatty acids make the oil very hydrating and enable it to lock in moisture.  When skin is kept hydrated it can help to minimize the signs and appearance of aging by strengthening the skins natural barrier.  Tamanu oil may help to increase collagen production and promote cell growth which also in turn helps improve signs of aging.  The fact that it is full of anti-oxidants means that it may help protect your skin from everyday pollution that you come into contact with.

Tamanu may have many other benefits including anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.  The anti-bacterial properties may help combat the specific bacteria types that cause acne.  Tamanu oil contains the terpene caryophyllene which contains anti-oxidants and may help to reduce inflammation and help heal and reduce scarring. There is a study that shows that calophyllum inophyllum oil is beneficial for wound healing.

This oil may contain properties that could help improve eczema, hyperpigmentation and sunburns.  There are many more studies needed, but tamanu shows great results so far absorbing UV light and protecting the skin.  There was also a very interesting study performed in 2015 that talks about the anti-bacterial properties and the connection with the oil being anti-cancerous.

As you can see the benefits when it comes to tamanu oil are endless.  Our skin has never looked or felt better and we are beyond thrilled to be able to introduce you to this luxury skincare ingredient.  We hope you love it as much as we do and we can't wait to hear your feedback.

Stay Wilde
