I’ve spent 8 years perfecting my iced matcha latte recipe and I can’t wait to share it with you!
If you’ve tried matcha in the past and it hasn’t been your cup of tea don’t knock it until you try this one. May matcha drinks online or even at stores and coffee shops have added sweeteners and ingredients to enhance its color. However, with a good quality matcha though, none of that is necessary.
Things to look for when shopping for a good matcha: no added sweeteners or colorants, sourced from Japan (specifically from Uji and or the Kyoto region in general), premium first harvest, ceremonial grade, certified organic (if that’s important to you).
Before we jump into the recipe, let's talk medicinal properties of matcha.
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES:
Matcha helps boost brain power increasing focus with its subtle but powerful caffeine content (equivalent to 2/3rds of a cup of coffee). It also contains L-theanine, an amino acid known to promote relaxation by lowering stress and anxiety levels. It is antioxidant rich making it great for skin health and overall oxidative stress. It also rich in catechins which has been shown to boost metabolism and promote fat loss.
Local raw honey is great for supporting seasonal allergies, strengthening the immune system, is antioxidant rich, antibacterial, helps digestion, and more.
Maple syrup is rich in antioxidants, minerals, contains prebiotics, has a lower glycemic index compared to refined sugar, and has anti-inflammatory properties.
If you're not already convinced, go ahead and try this recipe for yourself, and note how you feel after. Enjoy!
